Ashanti Shequoiya, also known in the media as Ashanti was born October 13 the 13th of October, 1980 at Glen Cove New York United States. She is a singer songwriter and actress from in the United States. Ashanti became famous as an 18-year-old and was signed to Murder Inc. Records in 2002. Ashanti made an appearance in the Fat Joe's What's Luv? track and Ja Rule's Always on Time track. Both of them became massive hits. In the case of Foolish and the track What's Luv being at number one and her first number one hit, she was the only woman to record two songs in the Billboard Hot 100 chart top 10 in the United States. She became the first female artist holding both of the Top two spots on the American Billboard Hot 100 With Foolish as number one and the other being What's Loving? Tina Douglas was her mother as well as Ken Kaide Thomas Douglas earlier performed as a vocalist. The Kenashia Shia family is their younger sister. Douglas chose the name Ashanti in honor of the Ashanti Empire in which women had control and power. Douglas hoped Ashanti would emulate the Ashanti Empire. James' grandfather worked for Martin Luther King Jr. as a civil rights advocate in the 1960s. Ashanti was found by her mother after she heard Ashanti singing Mary J. Blige s song Reminisce. Ashanti was on the screen as a child as a character in the film of Spike Lee, Malcolm X and Malcolm X in 1992. Ashanti also had an important role on Ted Demme's Who's the Man? In addition, she appeared in a few music videos, including 8-Off Ghettogirl, and K.R.S. Act One MC's They Don't Even Know. After having been courted for a long time by various record companies, including Bad Boy, Jive and other companies, Ashanti struggled to be a vocalist. Despite this she continued to sing in and around New York and began hanging around at the Murder Inc. recording studio hoping to get a major break. Ashanti made an appearance on the original Big Pun's track How We Roll, as a back singer. She was also featured on the Fat Joe's song What's Luv? Ja Rule's Always on Time and Fat Joe's There is Love. The track was a sample of DeBarge's 1983 single Stay with Me on her debut single Foolish. Ashanti's self-titled first album was made available in 2002 via Irv Gotti's Murder Inc. record label. The Declaration is the fourth Ashanti studio album. The album was released through Murder Inc. on June 3, 2008. On the 16th of October Hey Baby (After the Club) was released to radio and digital outlets. The actress has appeared in the film Christmas in the City as and Army Wives. Aitch, one of the British musician, sampled her track Rock wit U for Baby on March 10, 2022.
